TGLP welcome the comments of the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who has said that cutting vital investment in London's transport system would hurt London's business and damage the UK economy.
In a speech to the CBI, the Mayor said:
"London is the economic powerhouse of the UK and our economic recovery and global competitiveness will be devastated if we fail to invest in our transport infrastructure. London needs both an upgraded Tube and Crossrail."
Speaking at the launch of the TGLP annual review in June, Partnership Chair Lord Falconer said:
"By any objective measure, investment in the London Thames Gateway is good for the UK economy, such is its strategic importance. It would be a disastrous false economy not to honour the existing Crossrail commitments.
"The eastern end of Cross rail and the spur to Abbey Wood are integral parts of the scheme. Without it the transport system will not be able to support planned and vital new development and the people of East London risk being left behind if they are not able to access new jobs."

Jonathan Edwards and Sebastian Coe joined TGLP Chair Lord Falconer last month to celebrate the inspirational achievements of nearly 800 previously unemployed Londoners at the Personal Best Recognition of Achievement event, which was organised by TGLP at IndigO2 in the O2 Arena, on behalf of the London Development Agency (LDA).
The Personal Best programme works with those who have been long-term unemployed and helps them into further training or employment through voluntary work. Funded by the LDA, European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency, Personal Best is unique because it uses the excitement of the 2012 Olympics to help incentivise participants. The London Organising Committee (LOCOG) have committed to guaraneteeing an interview for a volunteer role at London 2012 for all those who graduate from the programme and successfully complete an application form.
Other speakers at the event included Richard Barnes, deputy Mayor of London, Mary Conneely from the Skills Funding Agency and olympian Sarah Winckless. Mayor Boris Johnson also sent a video message of support. Organisers were delighted at the near capacity attendance by exhbitors and attendees at the event.
